Robot Chicken

, the [adult swim] co-created by Wizard alum Matt Senreich and Buffy the Family Guy actor Seth Green, owes a good deal to Twisted [Mego/ToyFare] Theatre. Long before Robot Chicken was winning Emmy Awards and outselling popular sitcoms on DVD, Twisted ToyFare Theatre was a feature that used to appear in Wizard and ToyFare magazines and featured essentially the same premise as Robot Chicken, written by current Robot Chicken head writer Tom Root and Senreich. That feature had a great deal of fun finding ways to make fun of or subvert a cease-and-desist order placed on the stories by DC Comics, who objected to the use of their characters in the tales. So it's with no small amount of self-consciousness, one hopes, that DC Entertainment rolled out a press release tonight, promoting the upcoming Robot Chicken DC Comics Special. Starring Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and a slew of other voice talent, rumors have had it that the special will be the final curtain call for Mark Hamill's fan-favorite interpretation of The Joker, a character who was killed at the end of the Batman: Arkham City video game. Nothing in DC's current press release can seem to confirm that particular aspect of the special. "Having been raised on DC Comics and the Super Friends vs. Legion of Doom, it's exciting to tell a whole Robot Chicken story within this awesome universe," said Green in the press release. Senreich added, "We've been working with Geoff Johns for over 15 years, so playing together on this special only made it more fun to work in the worlds we all love so dearly." The special will air on Cartoon Network this fall.
