DC Entertainment today announced an aggressive initiative to get their all-ages DC Nation-branded material in front of more eyes, with a new app for tablets and smartphones and an anthology magazine meant for the bookstore and newsstand market. "DC Nation has already proven to be an extremely popular kids' franchise," Hank Kanalz, senior vice president of digital, DC Entertainment, said at the company's blog.  "The new app and magazine will extend DC Nation's reach while also delivering fresh content to core fans of the TV programming block." Featuring comics culled from twenty years of all-ages material from the Batman Adventures and Superman Adventures series set in the DC Animated Universe to current titles like Young Justice and Green Lantern: The Animated Series, the DC Nation-branded app

is powered by ComiXology but features only age-appropriate titles for young readers. According to DC, the app features thousands of titles to choose from, including free first-issue previews of Batman Adventures, Superman Adventures and Tiny Titans. According to DC, "The app will also offer several Super Hero Origin mini-comics and the first six installments of the ever-expanding DC Nation Secret Files, an encyclopedia of the coolest characters from DC Comics. A monthly DC Nation "mini-mag" will highlight the latest happenings with the Cartoon Network TV programming block. In addition to the wide-range of free comics in the app, more than 100 all-ages DC Comics titles will be available for purchase at $.99 each, with more titles added every week." The DC Nation magazine, meanwhile, will choose from the same material, presumably with a heavy emphasis on the newer material that's currently being seen on the Cartoon Network's popular DC Nation programming block. Each issue will include three issues of the individual comics, collected in a single magazine-format volume that will also include special features. The image provided by DC suggests that the additional material will be similar to the sketch comedy bumpers that appear on the Cartoon Network as well. It will apparently be a seasonal publication, planned to come out throughout the summer, and will cost $4.99.
