Avengers Vs. X-Men

artist John Romita Jr. will attempt a world-record-breaking signing and sketching appearance beginning next week, on May 4, 2012. The attempt will begin at noon, with a press conference shortly beforehand that will feature a special appearance by Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee; it is scheduled to run for fifty hours, concluding at 2 p.m. on May 6. Romita already holds the existing record, 48 continuous hours, set ten years ago, but will use the launch of The Avengers from Marvel and Walt Disney Studios next week as an opportunity to attempt to break his own record as part of a rundraiser for Heroes for Jordan, a charity set up to provide medical care for Jordan Atherton, Romita's 12-year-old niece, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor at age two and continues to require special care. Heroes For Jordan has also teamed with Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada to support the event; CCCFN is a more broad-based cancer support organization for children. The signing will take place at the Hard Rock Cafe in Las Vegas, Nevada's Showcase Mall. The event is sponsored by the Hard Rock Cafe, Marvel, Comic Oasis, Desert Wind Comics, and UA Showcase 8.
