Avengers Movie Funniest Moments

Unfortunately, when most superhero movies inspire laughter, it’s usually not a good thing. Comedy is a very difficult thing to pull off in a comic book movie because there is a very fine line between funny and campy. The Avengers is one of those rare superhero movies, where the humor actually works. There are several laugh out loud moments in The Avengers, which do not take away from the action sequences, but serve to enhance the overall entertainment value of the movie. Both Joss Whedon and the actors themselves deserve enormous credit for making The Avengers funny in a good way.

Here are our favorite humorous moments in The Avengers. Be sure to let us know what scenes had you laughing the loudest in our comment section, and if there are any scenes we overlooked for the top five. Of course, it should go without saying at this point, but since we are describing specific scenes, there will be spoilers for anyone who hasn’t seen the movie yet (as if there are people who still haven’t seen the movie).

S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Playing Galaga – There are few actors who have a way with words as well as Robert Downey Jr. In one of his rants, Tony Stark casually mentions, “That man is playing Galaga, thought we wouldn’t notice, but we did.” At first, it’s unclear if Tony Stark is just making a joke, but the scene ends showing a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent flipping his screen back to his Galaga game.

Agent Coulson Asks Captain America To Sign His Trading Cards – This is one of several two part jokes in The Avengers. Black Widow sets it up by asking Captain America if Agent Coulson had asked him to sign his vintage Captain America trading cards yet. The payoff comes later when we see Captain America re-assuring Agent Coulson that it’s no bother, and we instantly know what he’s asked Captain America to do. What also makes this joke great is that it’s not just a throwaway joke, but it figures into the plot of the movie, as Agent Coulson’s bloody cards are used by Nick Fury as a motivating tool for The Avengers.

Hulk Punches Thor Out Of The Scene – Sometimes the best comedic moments are those that you don’t expect, and such was the case in a hilarious scene between Hulk and Thor. After taking down one of the alien leviathan’s together, Hulk and Thor pause for just a second side-by-side to rest. Out of the blue and without even looking, Hulk hauls off and punches Thor completely out of the scene, as if to give him payback for the earlier fight between the two.

Hulk Smashes Loki – This scene works so well because the entire movie helped to set it up. During the course of the movie, Loki treated the audience to some epic evil rants. When the Hulk confronted Loki, it looked like we were going to get another rant, as Loki said, “I am a god, you dull creature, and I will not be bullied by…” But Hulk doesn’t wait to hear what comes next, and he grabs Loki and smashes him repeatedly into the ground. Then, Hulk sums it up with two words, “Puny god!”

Hulk Roars To Wake Up Iron Man – This one scene offers double whammy laughter. First, everyone is standing around trying to wake up an unconscious Iron Man, when Hulk finds a simple solution by letting out a huge roar, which shocks Tony Stark awake. Upon waking up, Tony Stark then quips, “Please tell me nobody kissed me.”
