The Walking Dead Escape: San Diego

, the weekend-long event at San Diego's PetCo park where fans in town for Comic-Con International can approximate Atlanta's evacuation in the early days of The Walking Dead's zombie apocalypse, announced tonight that Greg Nicotero, special effects guru and Co-Executive Producer on The Walking Dead for AMC, will be joining the event, with his team providing makeup effects for fans who sign up to go through the walk as zombies. "Greg Nicotero and his team at KNB EFX will transform those who sign up to be Walkers into the most terrifying zombies to grace San Diego," promises a press release from The Walking Dead Escape. "We couldn't be more pleased to have Greg and his KNB EFX team on board for The Walking Dead Escape: San Diego," said event producer Liam Brenner. "People who sign up to be Walkers will have the opportunity to be completely transformed into zombies by the leader in the Special Make-up Effects industry. It's really a chance of a lifetime!" The event allows fans to walk or run through a zombie-infested obstacle course inside of a massive baseball field. It's a walk/run/climb/crawl adventure that producers liken to a theme park ride, except that at the end, staffers will tell you whether or not you're infected with the zombie virus. "This is the first official [Walking Dead zombie walk/run], and it's gonna be the best one," series creator Robert Kirkman told us of the Escape when we spoke to him back in May. "We've got a lot of cool stuff planned for it; it's really just crazy. It's like an amusement park ride when you get in there."
