Remember how, not long ago, we reported on a Bleeding Cool story that The Walking Dead #100 may turn out to be the best-selling direct-market, single-issue comic book of the year? And remember how that might be, in no small part, a result of having so many variant covers? There were nine back then. Today, we got our peek at the tenth and final variant cover for The Walking Dead #100, to be distributed exclusively at the Walking Dead Escape: San Diego at PetCo Park next month. Featuring art by Matthew Roberts, who worked with Robert Kirkman on Battle Popeyears ago, the variant is free with any admission purchase to be a Survivor or Walker (two of the three sorts of tickets that can be purchased to the event, with the third being a spectator ticket). "I've had the pleasure of working with Matt Roberts since the very earliest days of my career on Battle Pope," said The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, "I couldn't be more thrilled that he's coming back to comics to work with Skybound and I can't think of a better way of reintroducing him to the world of comics than with this cover, commemorating The Walking DeadEscape and our monumental issue 100." Back when the pair last worked together, Roberts acknowledges that Battle Pope wasn't his sole focus.  "I was moonlighting from my day job in the Air Force," he confessed in a release. "With my patriotism quenched and my kids able to make their own breakfast, I'm back at the drawing table and honored to draw the variant for such a milestone issue and an amazing event in The Walking Dead Escape."  Roberts' says, "I'm grateful beyond words for the opportunity to draw again, and to be working with Robert is a huge cherry on top. I couldn't be happier."
