passed $300 million in domestic box office receipts on Tuesday, according to Warner Brothers, making it the third-fastest film in history to do so, after Marvel's The Avengers and The Dark Knight. The Avengers and The Dark Knight took nine and ten days, respectively, to hit the mark, according to Box Office Mojo, and had $390 million and $334 million, respectively, by their twelfth day of release, the day The Dark Knight Rises crossed the $300 million mark. The film is also the third-highest grossing film of the year so far, surpassing The Amazing Spider-Man and Men in Black 3 to take up the #3 spot behind The Avengers and The Hunger Games. The Hunger Games' $406 million domestic haul seems well within reach for the Christopher Nolan sequel, which will likely make somewhere in the neighborhood of $50 million between now and Sunday. During a conference call yesterday, Time Warner Chief Executive Jeff Bewkes told reporters that while The Dark Knight remains the domestic standard-bearer, the international market is being very kind to The Dark Knight Rises (so far, it's got a $552 million international haul) and that by the end of its run, the studio expects the film to eclipse $1 billion worldwide and become the highest-grossing Batman film of all time.
