The Walking Dead Facebook Game Preview

The Walking Dead Facebook game launched in open beta on Thursday, and it seems to have gotten quite the response from users. With over half a million users liking the page, it’s no surprise that there were a lot of players right from the start.

In fact response was so great that some users complained of lag time, which led the page to post the following message, “Response to the open beta launch of the game has been overwhelming and you may have experienced loading delays. We have now added additional servers to handle the tremendous demand. We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced.”

Another complaint that popped up is that some users posted they were running out of energy to quickly. To address this complaint, the page posted “To keep the walker kill count high, we offer FREE unlimited energy refills for our player levels 1 through 5 inside of the Store!” Of course, some users who have progressed past level 5 already are still voicing their objections to how quickly energy depletes.

Outside of the load time delays and energy issues, the overall the response to the game seems to be very positive with users indicating that it’s a fun game. There are also thousands of people posting add me requests so the popularity of the game should continue to grow.

The Walking Dead Facebook game was developed by Eyes Wide Games of Atlanta, Georgia. It is of course based on the popular AMC TV show (which is based on Robert Kirkman’s comic book). According to Mac McKean, who is AMC’s SVP of Digital Media, “The audience for AMC’s The Walking Dead are passionate and deeply interested in the world of the show. Our social game allows them to explore and experience the zombie apocalypse for themselves, along with their friends.” The Walking Dead Season 3 premieres Sunday, October 14 at 9/8c on AMC.
