Fans of J.R.R. Tolkien who have already read The Hobbit may want to steer clear of the iOS and Android app that's been released by Warner/New Line Cinema to promote the film. Just before San Diego Comic-Con International, a banner ad was released by Warners that gave a kind of timeline of The Hobbit films, breaking at the time between the first and second (then final) film. Now, of course, the two films have been divided further into three and the iOS app features a new banner that, if you look carefully and know what you're looking at, appears to give fans a sense for when the first film will cut out, notes The One Ring. The breaking point, which takes place around chapter six, is just under a third of the way through the novel, meaning that it could set the stage for a second film that takes up just around the same number of chapters and then a third one that's a bit longer to accommodate wrap-up. You can download the app for yourself, or just click on that little picture there for a much bigger version, if you're not afraid of the spoilers. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, is directed by Lord of the Rings mastermind Peter Jackson and due in theaters on December 14.
