When Captain America: The First Avenger was released in Russia, Captain America was dropped from the title to make the name of movie just The First Avenger. For Captain America: The Winter Solider, there will also be another Russian name change. Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be called The First Avenger: The Other War when it is released in Russia.
While it’s not a big surprise that Russia opted to go with the name The First Avenger over Captain America, the fact that The Winter Soldier subtitle is being changed to The Other War is kind of surprising. Since The Winter Soldier is actually Captain America’s sidekick Bucky who was brainwashed by the Soviets, could it be that Russia didn’t want to highlight this character and his background in the title of the movie?
However, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is not the only upcoming Marvel movie that will be released with a different title in Russia. The Thor sequel will also have a slightly different title in Russia, even though its change is not as drastic as the Captain America sequel title change. Thor: The Dark World will instead be called Thor: The Kingdom Of Darkness in Russia.
