Scott Chitwood, co-owner of Red 5 Comics, told fans today at Wizard World Austin Comic Con that Atomic Robo and the Savage Sword of Dr. Dinosaur, the eighth volume in the massively popular and Eisner Award-nominated indie comics series by Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener, will be coming this spring. The series, published as an ongoing set of miniseries that begin in 2007, centers around the titular character, a robot created by Nikola Tesla, who finds himself responding to extranormal threats as an "Action Scientist." Chitwood promised fans that, as has been the custom for a few years now, Atomic Robo would also be featured in Red 5 Comics's Free Comic Book Day offering coming up in May. He also teased a role playing game based on the property, and an animated short coming soon, which was financed using Kickstarter. The film, titled Atomic Robo: Last Stop, is directed by Joseph W. Krzemienski; he set out to raise $12,000 to make the movie a reality and ended up generating six times that in Kickstarter donations. DVDs of the film are expected to start shipping to Kickstarter contributors in January 2013, according to the site.
