After the first Iron Man 3 trailer was released, everyone was wondering where the connection to China was. Some news outlets questioned if Iron Man 3 was still a Chinese co-production. Dan Mintz of DMG Entertainment even gave an interview to The Hollywood Reporter to reassure everyone that Iron Man 3 was indeed still being co-produced in China.
Well, it turns out that there is a Chinese-based scene in the Iron Man 3 trailer. It was staring us right in the face all along. In the scene of Tony Stark about to undergo an operation in a hospital, there are acupuncture needles across the top of his chest. In China, acupuncture anaesthesia is often used in surgery, even sometimes with open heart surgery. Also, Chinese writing can be made out on the circle attachment for the light that is above Tony Stark.
Even though the hospital scene was likely filmed at New Hanover Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina, it appears to actually be set in China. Our guess is Tony Stark must travel to China to have some type of operation that can’t be performed in the United States. Iron Man 3 is set to be released in theaters on May 3, 2013.
