Most of the Star Wars Episode VII casting rumors that have circulated so far have either involved the old cast returning or young stars such as the Twilight cast. Both rumors have received mix reaction from fans.
With the old cast, fans are split between the desire to see their old favorites back again and the fear of Star Wars Senior Citizens edition. And while the young Twilight stars have huge and supportive followings, the thought of Robert Pattinson playing Jar Jar Binks can be somewhat cringe-inducing for most Star Wars fans.
Of course with a franchise as popular as Star Wars, anyone who is rumored to be in the running to be cast is likely to be heatedly debated among fans. However, one actor has just voiced his interest, who actually seems like a pretty good fit.
When asked if he would have an interest in Star Wars Episode VII by Digital Spy, Tom Hiddleston said, “Goodness, I hadn’t thought of that. I mean, yeah, sure. It would be…I’m a huge fan, especially of the first three, because I grew up watching Star Wars: A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. So, absolutely, yeah. It would depend on the story and the character and things.”
Tom Hiddleston did express concern that people might associate him too closely with the character of Loki for him to get cast. Hiddleston also expressed praise of producer Kathleen Kennedy’s experience and wisdom. Hiddleston added, “I would take it very seriously if they asked me , for sure.”
In The Avengers, Tom Hiddleston took his Loki character to the next level, and he really was one of the standout performances in the movie. Given how he really made audiences feel the evil of Loki, we could totally see him playing an evil Star Wars villain. What do you think? Should Tom Hiddleston be given a shot at Star Wars?
