In television, Larry Hagman’s most famous roles were as J. R. Ewing in the eighties soap opera Dallas and as astronaut Major Anthony "Tony" Nelson in the sixties sitcom I Dream of Jeannie. It was because of I Dream of Jeannie that Larry Hagman made his first comic book appearance. In the sixties, Dell Comics published two issues of an I Dream of Jeannie comic book, both of which had photo covers featuring Larry Hagman.
In 2001 and 2002, Airwave Comics also published some comic books about I Dream of Jeannie, which included a first issue, a preview book, a Special Edition, a Wishbook and a Tricks or Treats Halloween annual.
However, Larry Hagman’s most unusual comic book appearance came courtesy of Marvel Comics’ Iron Man. In Iron Man #222, Larry Hagman appeared at one of Tony Stark’s parties with a number of other eighties celebrities. Besides Larry Hagman, other party guests included Dr. Ruth and William “Refrigerator” Perry.
