Iron Man 3 Prelude Sets Up War Machine Name Change To Iron Patriot

In the Iron Man 3 Prelude comic book, it was revealed exactly what War Machine was up to during the events of The Avengers. But Rhodey's activities during The Avengers wasn't the only interesting bit of information revealed in the issue that helps set up Iron Man 3. It's already been revealed that Rhodey wears the Iron Patriot armor in Iron Man 3, because the photo that Marvel Studios released of the Iron Patriot armor shows his name on it. However, it's been a big mystery as to why Rhodey would switch from the War Machine moniker to calling himself Iron Patriot. The Iron Man 3 Prelude comic gives a hint at why exactly Rhodey might make the change in the movie. When Rhodey refers to his armor as War Machine, Tony Stark is actually surprised. Tony Stark says, "You're actually calling it 'War Machine?' I meant that as an insult." The line certainly seems to foreshadow a possible reason for Rhodey to change his name. If Tony Stark perceived calling him War Machine as an insult, then Rhodey might take that as a hint to choose a little more friendly name for his armor.
