Director Guillermo del Toro

Back when Comicbook.com compiled our list of five most likely directors for Star Wars Episode 7, we included Guillermo Del Toro on our list. We noted that given Del Toro's propensity for producing incredible creatures in his movie that he would be someone that Disney might consider capable of bringing new characters and ideas to the Star Wars Universe. Since Del Toro had already hinted he was very busy with other stuff, we also said that he was a longshot. Well, now we have confirmation that Disney was interested in Guillermo Del Toro, but the director passed on the opportunity because of his busy schedule. According to The Playlist, Guillermo Del Toro revealed that his agent did get a call from Disney about the job. Guillermo Del Toro said, "It was very flattering. It was just a phone call, it didn't go past that, it was very nice to be asked, but believe it or not, I'm busy enough." In addition, Guillermo Del Toro informed The Playlist that he wouldn't be working on any of the rumored Star Wars spinoffs. Guillermo Del Toro said, "I think the fans deserve somebody that is just going to immerse themselves completely. As a geek, I would have loved to see Brad Bird take it." Of course, director Brad Bird has already declared himself out of the running, as he's busy working on another science fiction movie called 1952.
