For years, fans have hoped to see Ryan Reynolds appear as Wally West in a film adaptation of The Flash. Well, now that Barry Allen is the Flash of choice and Ryan Reynolds has already had one abortive attempt at a DC superhero franchise, that hope seems to have been snuffed completely out. Who's the next handsome young man to fill those silly yellow boots? What about Ryan Gosling? Actually, it sounds like a "no" from Gosling, who has appeared in films like The Notebook and Drive but whose real claim to fame is being fancast in every movie ever made, got people talking today when he suggested he probably wouldn't be in a superhero film, in part since he would likely be relegated to playing the Fastest Man Alive in Warner's rumored Justice League film. During a ScreenCrave interview in promotion of Gangster Squad, the leading man was asked about the prospect of playing a superhero on the big screen. His reply? "They're all taken." When reminded that a Justice League movie could open up any number of high-profile superhero roles, including The Flash and Green Lantern, Gosling evaded the question, saying simply, "Well Ryan Reynolds is Green Lantern. I can get Flash basically." Pressed as to whether he would ever play a superhero given the opportunity, he concluded, "Here's the thing. Drive was my attempt at the superhero movie. I had a costume and everything. The scorpion jacket. It was like my cape. It was like the idea of a guy that had seen too many superhero movies and then decided that he was going to make himself one." Sure sounds like that's all a very non-denial denial, saying essentially, "I'm not planning on playing a superhero anytime soon," without actually shooting down an idea that could, under the right circumstances, attract almost any actor.
