Guardians of the Galaxy rumors

When Marvel Comics released the April solicitations for their comic books, there was a rather unusual variant cover buried among the listings. Guardians of the Galaxy #2 will have a movie variant cover also available. While it's not uncommon for comic book companies to release movie variant covers, Guardians of the Galaxy #2 is being released in April 2013, while the Guardians of the Galaxy movie won't be released until August 1, 2014. In fact, while numerous rumors have circulated about various actors auditioning for the role of Star-Lord, there has not been a single cast member yet confirmed for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. With no actors in place to create a photo movie cover, the as-yet-unrevealed Guardians of the Galaxy movie variant cover will likely be concept art, unless Marvel decides to do a photo cover of director James Gunn. Fans will definitely be interested in seeing the lineup of the team on the movie variant cover, as various rumors have circulated over whether Iron Man or Nova will be part of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Iron Man joined the Guardians of the Galaxy comic book series, presumable to add a recognizable character to the comic to help boost sales. Sources have suggested that Disney will look to utilize the same strategy in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie if Robert Downey Jr. is signed to a new contract. There has also been a great deal made of how the comic book is being coordinated with the movie, so it would seem kind of dumbfounding for the movie and comic book team to not match. As far as the Nova rumor, Nova has yet to be officially tied to either the Guardians of the Galaxy comic book or movie, but the Nova star appeared in the Comic-Con concept art released for the movie. Plus, Nova appears to be a character that Marvel Comics has been pushing lately, which leads to speculation they might have movie plans for him. Despite the rumors of an Iron Man or Nova appearance in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, director James Gunn has denied that all rumors about his movie are true, which would seem to suggest the team lineup will be the exact same as released in the concept art. Guardians of the Galaxy #2 is written by Brian Michael Bendis with art by Steve McNiven. In addition to the movie variant cover, there will also be variant covers by Joe Quesada and Joe Madiuera.
