The Amazing Arizona Comic Convention has announced that Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee has cancelled his appearance at the show this weekend, citing illness. Here's their official statement, which offers fans refunds or opportunities to ship items to Lee to be signed:

We here at Amazing Arizona Comic Con regret to announce that we have been informed by Mr. Stan Lee's representatives that he is physically unable to travel and appear for this weekend's events due to illness. Fortunately, we have a full weekend of great programming, over hundred of comic creators coming to the convention, and nearly 300 exhibitors on the main floor. Further headline guest Jim Lee, the Best Selling comic artist of all time, will be on hand at the event to meet with attendees, sign FREE autographs, and share in the spirit of comics and pop culture. Amazing Arizona Comic Con apologizes for the inconvenience and wishes Mr. Stan Lee a speedy recovery. For those attendees who purchased Stan Lee Photo Ops or Stan Lee Packages, you may contactINFO@AmazingArizonaComicCon.com to inquire about refund eligibility. Please contact us no later than Friday, January 25, 2013 for more information. Amazing Arizona Comic Con reserves the right to process and issue refunds for eligible and qualified attendees, which will be dispersed from February 18 through 28. Amazing Arizona Comic Con, in cooperation with Desert Wind Comics, has the following options available to those who have previously purchased INDIVIDUAL SIGNING TICKETS for the Stan Lee Autograph sessions taking place this Saturday, January 26, 2013. You may choose from one of the following choices: 1. The purchaser of a Stan Lee signing ticket may submit to Desert Wind Comics one item for each signing ticket to be signed by Stan Lee. Desert Wind Comics will personally take the items to be signed to Stan Lee's office in Los Angeles, Ca and once signed, will then ship the items to their appropriate owners. (A minimal shipping fee applies) 2. The purchaser of a Stan Lee signing ticket may choose to submit their comic book to Desert Wind Comics to be signed by Stan Lee as per option 1 and then have the book submitted to CGC for Signature Series grading (additional fees apply) and then have the graded comic shipped back to the owner. 3. The purchaser of a Stan Lee signing ticket may get a refund of the paid ticket. The refund is in accordance with the policy stated in the Desert Wind Comics web store advertisement for Stan Lee signing tickets. See a Desert Wind Comics representative at Booth #620 for details and restrictions. Please note that if you have not already purchased a signing ticket you may still purchase a Stan Lee signing ticket and then choose either option 1 or 2. (All fees apply) Stan Lee signing tickets may be purchased at the Desert Wind Comics booth located at booth 620.

The last time Stan Lee was reported to have cancelled convention appearances due to health concerns, his representatives downplayed the 90-year-old comic book legend's ailment, which later turned out to be a pacemaker installation. Obviously it's been a bad flu season, and doctors generally urge caution for any senior citizens or people with health conditions traveling under those circumstances--so it's possible that Lee's health concerns are minor and that he's simply unable to board a plane with a cold right now. After the hysterical health scare that swept the comics industry last time around, ComicBook.com has reached out to representatives for Lee's Comikaze Expo for a clarification on his condition. We'll update the story when and if we hear back.
