The Big Bang Theory The Spoiler Alert Segmentation

Last night, The Big Bang Theory aired an episode which focused on spoilers. At the beginning of the episode, Sheldon dropped a couple of spoilers for the Harry Potter book series, which likely wasn't a big deal since the books have been out for quite some time. However, the entire plot of the episode revolved around how Leonard was outraged, because he was actually still in process of reading the books. At the end of the episode, Sheldon dropped another spoiler, this time for The Walking Dead. Except this time the spoiler was for something that is much more recent and probably not as widely known. Sheldon revealed a shocking death that occurred in the current season three of The Walking Dead. While spoilers are common on the Internet, and anyone who seeks out articles on The Walking Dead pretty much knows they are going to get spoiled, the sudden airing of a random spoiler during a TV show has stirred a mini-outrage online. After the show aired, several fans who were not completely caught up on season three, expressed their outrage on Twitter that The Big Bang Theory had just spoiled The Walking Dead for them. There were also posts started on Reddit to warn fans who hadn't caught up on The Walking Dead that The Big Bang Theory just dropped a spoiler, and even people who already knew the spoiler expressed their irritation over what The Big Bang Theory had done. On Reddit, a user with the handle Flow_State commented, "That was an incredibly stupid move by the big bang theory. It's not like TWD is years and years old, it premiered in 2010. Some people are just starting to watch the show now. Why would they ruin it for so many people? It didn't even ruin it for me and that annoyed me." In a twist of irony, a show focusing on how upsetting it can be for someone to be told an unexpected spoiler has wound up upsetting part of its audience by spoiling another show. If you want to know what the spoiler was, then check out our Big Bang Theory recap, but be warned it contains spoilers for both The Big Bang Theory and The Walking Dead.
