Earlier today, the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films announced their nominees for the 2013 Saturn Awards, including at least one nomination for each of the three major comic book movies and a number of other films that our readers followed in 2012. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey dominated the nominations with nine, but as far as comic book movies go, Marvel's The Avengers  and The Dark Knight Rises headed up the pack with six nominations each. The Avengers got Best Science Fiction Film, Best Supporting Actor (Clark Gregg), Best Direction (Joss Whedon), Best Writing (Whedon again), Best Editing (Jeffrey Ford and Lisa Lassek) and Best Visual Effects (Janek Sirrs, Jeff White, Guy Williams and Dan Sudick). The Dark Knight Rises was nominated for Best Action/Adventure Film, Best Direction (Christopher Nolan), Best Actor (Christian Bale), Best Supporting Actor (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Best Supporting Actress (Anne Hathaway) and Best Music (Hans Zimmer). The Amazing Spider-Man also nabbed a nod for Best Fantasy Film, but it's unlikely to win in that category as it's facing off with The Hobbit directly. You can see the full list of nominees here.
