Universal Pictures released their upcoming slate of release dates, and revealed that while the comic book adaptation R.I.P.D. will keep its July 19, 2013 release date with 3-D being added to the proceedings. Whether opening in 3-D just one week after Pacific Rim, which is expected to do well, will hurt the film's potential box office draw is yet to be seen; certainly there are a limited number of 3-D theaters and if the Guillermo del Toro robots-and-monster-mash is doing as well as it's projected to, it might be difficult to get screens for the supernatural action flick, which features a pair of stars (Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds) whose last big action franchises have underperformed. Deadline also reports that both 2 Guns and Kick-Ass 2 have shuffled their release dates somewhat. 2 Guns, the Oni Press adaptation starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg, will now compete with two other comic book adaptations (300: Rise Of An Empire and Red 2) and The Smurfs 2 on August 2. That film had originally been set for August 16, a date that will now be filled by Jeff Wadlow's Kick-Ass sequel which, ironically, which originally took R.I.P.D.'s June 28 date but will now serve as Uni's last big movie of the summer.
