Deep Space Suit Armor

During an interview with Collider earlier today, Marvel Studios President and Iron Man 3 producer Kevin Feige dismissed talk of taking Iron Man into space, effectively implying that the "Deep Space" armor seen in merchandising and onscreen in the latest Iron Man 3 trailer, is little more than merchandising. Asked about the suit, which has lent some credence to Iron Man joining the Guardians of the Galaxy on film in the minds of many fans, Feige said, "Well I would say that I've owned a number of 'Jungle Attack' Batman [toys] in my time and I don't remember any jungle attack batman sequences, so..." Of course, the fact that the armor appears on the latest movie poster and in the new movie trailer sort of puts lie to the idea that it's "just" a toy and not part of the film, but whether it's a key part of the movie's plot, or that of the Marvel Universe going forward, as has been suggested by some fans, is certainly up for debate. On the more general question of why there are so many more armors in this film than we've seen in the past, Feige said, "You know we've seen, through Avengers, 7 or 8 suits and we wanted to progress that in this one. It's part of, again, the effect Avengers had on him is that he's tinkering even more than he did before and he's building much more than he ever did before." Iron Man 3 hits theaters May 4.
