Michael Rooker as Yondu

The Walking Dead's Michael Rooker is making the leap from comic book TV series to comic book movie. As first reported by Comicbook.com, Michael Rooker flew to England the other day to meet with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn. Rooker has appeared in a couple of Gunn's other movies and the two have long been good friends, so we assumed it was only a matter of time before Rooker officially joined the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy. While Michael Rooker initially campaigned for the role of Rocket Racoon, Deadline is reporting that he has been cast as Yondu, who was a game hunter of a primitive tribe native to Centauri IV. Yondu was actually one of the four founding members of the Guardians of the Galaxy, but it had not been previously revealed that he would be a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie team. Michael Rooker has been sporting a mohawk since arriving in London, so that maybe should have been taken as a hint as to what character he would be playing. Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled to be released on August 1, 2014. Update: Michael Rooker joining the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy as Yondu has been officially confirmed by MichaelRookerOnline.com, which is Michael Rooker's official website.
