Guardians of the Galaxy rumors

There have been lots of rumors that the Guardians of the Galaxy movie would connect to Avengers 2, but now it has been officially confirmed. In an interview with HeyUGuys at the UK premiere of Iron Man 3, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn confirmed some rumors while denying others. James Gunn revealed that filming would actually start for Guardians of the Galaxy at the end of June. James Gunn confirmed that Chris Pratt was part of the cast and suggested Michael Rooker might be involved in some way, but he stopped short of confirming that either Zoe Saldana or Dave Bautista had joined the cast. However, even though James Gunn didn't confirm Dave Bautista, he essentially did by denying all the reports that anyone besides Bautista was ever in the running for the role of Drax the Destroyer. As far as the role of Rocket Raccoon, James Gunn didn't reveal who was in the running, but he seemed confident that he would get the person he wanted for the role. James Gunn said, "Rocket Racoon, who is the heart of the movie, is not a cartoon character, it's not Bugs Bunny in the middle of The Avengers, it's a real, little, somewhat mangled beast that's alone. There's no one else in the universe quite like him, he's been created by these guys to be a mean-ass fighting machine." As far as comparing Guardians of the Galaxy to other Marvel Studios movies, James Gunn said, "In terms of a lot of stuff we're very much like The Avengers, where it's a very big, huge movie. It's different because it's cosmic, it's in outer space, it's very colourful. We have a whole history of science fiction behind us that we're dealing with, and borrowing from, and also fighting with to create something unique. But at the same time there's a lot of stuff it has in common with The Avengers." Even though James Gunn described the reason for casting Chris Pratt as being because he was the first guy he could see sharing he screen with Robert Downey Jr., Gunn also once again denied that Robert Downey Jr. was going to be a part of Guardians of the Galaxy. When asked if he intended Robert Downey Jr. to be involved with Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn said, "No. That just means that all our movies are connected, we're created in a way that we're very connected to the movies that came before us, we're even more connected to The Avengers 2, that comes after us, and so in that respect, what we would hope is that these characters would continue, and that at some point in time they'll all meet up with different characters throughout the galaxy."
