Thor The Dark World Thor

While most of the attention lately has been focused on the superhero movies debuting this summer, Marvel Studios has just now kicked off the marketing campaign for this winter's Thor The Dark World. Last week, Marvel released the first poster from Thor The Dark World, and today they've released the first photos (as well as a couple minor plot spoilers). Tomorrow, Marvel will release the first Thor The Dark World trailer. In USA Today, Thor star Chris Hemsworth reveals some interesting details around Thor The Dark World. Just like with Iron Man 3, it looks like Thor will be experiencing some repercussions from the events that occurred in The Avengers. However, unlike Tony Stark who was traumatized by the alien invasion, Thor is more use to all sorts of wild events and creatures. Thor's problem is that he didn't call his girlfriend when he was in town for The Avengers. Chris Hemsworth said, "Thor still has lot of explaining to do, and a lot of making up. Even demigods end up in the doghouse, mate. So none of us is safe." In the first film, a major plot element was Thor reacting to his new environment on Earth. However, in Thor The Dark World, things will be flipped around with most of the movie taking place in Asgard. Hemsworth said, "So while Thor was a fish out of water on Earth in the first two films (Thor and The Avengers), this time Jane is very much a fish out of water in Asgard." In order to give a gritty and realistic look to Asgard, Marvel Studios brought in Alan Taylor of Game Of Thrones fame. Hemsworth said, "We were worried about coming across as hokey or whatever. If there is anyone who can pull off a fantastical world like Asgard with a great amount of integrity, it is Alan Taylor, as we've seen in Game of Thrones." Besides just adjusting to life in Asgard, Jane Foster will also have to deal with disapproving parents. Apparently, Thor's parents don't think Jane is right for him, perhaps preferring rival love interest the warrior-goddess Sif. In possible the biggest spoiler, Chris Hemsworth confirms a longstanding rumor about Thor The Dark World. Thor will be forced to seek help from his brother Loki, possible providing Loki some measure of redemption in the film. Hemsworth said, "Needing Loki's help turns everything on its head. And it allows us to explore the underlying complexities of their relationship. It really ends up being a kind of chess match." Thor The Dark World is scheduled to be released in movie theaters on November 8, 2013.
