Man of Steel: Russell Crowe Confirms Krypton Dies

Yes, we know we're really piling on this rumor--but since it came from Entertainment Weekly, that will register with a lot of people as a credible source and so if it's not nipped in the bud it runs the risk of surviving long past this week and becoming something people assume about the film. On Thursday, a rumor came out of io9 based on a fan's reading of this year's Entertainment Weekly summer movie preview. The impression, basically, was that Krypton may not have actually been destroyed in Man of Steel, and that General Zod was coming to Earth to bring Kal-El back to their world. This would have worked, the logic went, because the screenwriters were using the John Byrne version of Superman's birth, essentially that he was one of a very few Kryptonian children born from love rather than science, and that his method of conception made him an outlaw at birth. This morning, ComicBook.com provided an image from the Man of Steel Junior Novelization which seemed to show Kal-El's rocket being shot away from an exploding Krypton, an homage to the classic image from Superman's origin as it's been reprinted time after time. And now Russell Crowe, who plays Jor-El in the movie, has seemingly confirmed via Twitter that Krypton isn't going to be around to take in any strays when and if Zod can get Superman to come back with him. Yesterday, the actor tweeted, "ahem...as I was saying...my name is Jor El, of Krypton, as my planet dies I send 2 you my son, Kal. So he may live. He will arrive June 14." So, at least as far as Crowe is concerned, Krypton's toast.
