X-Men: Days of Future Past

director Bryan Singer has tweeted the first set photo featuring franchise newcomer Peter Dinklage--and while it doesn't particularly help clarify the actor's role in the film, many fans think it narrows it down somewhat. "Reviewing tomorrow's work on the flight back to Montreal with Peter Dinklage," the director tweeted, showing a photo of the pair of them on a private jet. As you can see at left, Dinklage has a mustache in the photo, which has led some fans to assume that he'll play Puck. Puck is a short, stalky mutant who, depending on the artist, sometimes appears to be a little person and so many people had assumed Puck right away when the Game of Thrones and Elf star was cast. Rumors the next day, however, tapped Dinklage as the film's villain, which led many to believe that he would either be Bolivar Trask, central to the story of the Sentinels (who are confirmed to appear in the film), or Apocalypse, who would be a fully-CG character. Trask, like Puck, appears mustached in the comics and could be a possibility for this look--assuming the mustache is even for X-Men and won't be shaved before they start filming. That character has appeared once before in the X-Men film franchise--and was played by a black actor of ordinary stature--but played a minor enough role that the major recast may not be commented upon. The Apocalypse (or "other") option is still out there, of course, and the mustache could either have nothing to do with X-Men, or could be a red herring thrown out by Singer to keep the mystery alive.
