Spider-Man In The Avengers Movie

Earlier today, a rumor started circulating on the Internet that Sony might be selling the Spider-Man movie rights back to Marvel Studios. When Comicbook.com reported on the rumor, we noted that there were a number of problems with the theory. For one, the rumor was based on a letter from a major stockholder, which means it wasn't an official Sony plan. Even more importantly though, the letter that reportedly suggested that Sony sell off the rights to Spider-Man actually made no such suggestion. A copy of the letter was available online, and all it suggested was that Sony sell subscriptions in their entertainment division to existing stockholders as a way of raising more cash. Sony would have still maintained majority interest in their entertainment division, and there was nothing to suggest the movie rights to any characters would be sold off. In fact, we pointed out that it would actually seem against the point of the letter to sell off the Spider-Man movie rights because it would make it more difficult to sell off a percentage of the entertainment division. However, the rumor continued to grow online, and Ain't It Cool News reached out to Sony for comment. According to Ain't It Cool News, Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chair Amy Pascal denied the rumor and stated that Sony would "never ever ever" give-up Spider-Man. So now the rumor has been officially debunked.
