Return Of The Jedi, Geek Pride Day, Towel Day

Do you know what today is? It turns out that May 25 has a lot of special meaning for science fiction fans. For one thing, today is the 30th anniversary of the release of Return Of Jedi. Yes, Return Of the Jedi opened on May 25, 1983, introducing the world to Ewoks for the first time. The original Star Wars movie also opened on May 25, back in 1977, so technically it's also the 36th anniversary of Star Wars. In fact, the May 25 release date of the original Star Wars is why many also celebrate this day as Geek Pride Day, which is an initiative to promote geek culture. Of course, today isn't all about Star Wars, as it's also being celebrated by fans of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy as Towel Day. Douglas Adams, who is the author of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, passed away on May 11, 2001. Towel Day had it's beginning the same year, as two weeks after the author's death, fans decided to carry towels with them for the day to pay tribute to the author and his books.
