The Wolverine Twist

If you don't want to be spoiled, then stop reading now, because we're going to be discussing some of the big spoilers for not only The Wolverine but all of this summer's comic book movies. Earlier this summer, Iron Man 3 included a controversial twist, which divided comic book fans. While all the promotional material for Iron Man 3 indicated that Ben Kingsley would be playing The Mandarin, Ben Kingsley was actually playing an actor named Trevor Slattery, who was hired to play The Mandarin. Many comic book fans were outraged that Iron Man's biggest villain was turned into somewhat of a joke for Iron Man 3. And just when it looked like Iron Man 3 might win the title of most controversial comic book movie of all time, along came the Man Of Steel.  In order to stop Zod from killing an innocent family, Superman snapped Zod's neck in one of the most shocking scenes ever in a comic book movie. Many comic book fans were outraged that Superman would break his code against killing, especially in such a graphically violent way. Other fans argued that Superman has killed in the past, and Zod left him with no other choice. In keeping with this summer's comic book movie tradition, The Wolverine also has a controversial twist that is already starting to create a stir in the comic book community. It's not quite as dividing as the Iron Man 3 and Man Of Steel twists, but it still proves to be a major change from the traditional comic book storyline. In the comic books, Kenuichio Harada is the villain Silver Samurai. However, in The Wolverine trailers, Silver Samurai looks more like a giant robot than an actual person. Well, the good news is that Silver Samurai is not a robot, but the bad news is that the Silver Samurai is not Kenuichio Harada either. Last chance to turn away, because here comes a major spoiler for the movie. In the big fight scene finale, Logan chops off the head of the robotic Silver Samurai, revealing that Yashida is inside. Yashida is the elderly, dying Japanese man, who was trying to steal Logan's immortality. The big twist is that this fragile old man is behind this giant robotic Silver Samurai. Of course, anytime a major character, whether villain or hero, is changed in a major way in a movie, it's bound to stir just a little bit of controversy.
