We3, Hit Monkey, and Thunderbolts

In an online Q&A with fans, Guardians Of The Galaxy director James Gunn was asked what he would choose if he could write or direct any other property of film, comic, book, TV show, etc. Gunn selected three different comic book properties for movies that he would like to write or direct. His answer may surprise you, because just like Guardians Of The Galaxy, the projects he is interested in aren't exactly household names. James Gunn selected We3, Hit Monkey, and Thunderbolts as his favorite properties to develop for film. We3 is a group of three prototype animal weapons, who appeared in a three-issue comic book mini-series by writer Grant Morrison and artist Frank Quitely, which was published in 2004 by the Vertigo imprint of DC Comics. There was a dog named Bandit, a cat named Tinker, and a rabbit named Pirate. All three were kidnapped and put into robotic armor. We3 was optioned as a film project at one time by New Line Cinema. Hit Monkey is a Marvel Comics character who has appeared in some issues of Deadpool, his own one-shot special, and his own mini-series. Hit Monkey is about a monkey who kills assassins. Hit Monkey was created by Daniel Way and Dalibor Talajic. Thunderbolts is another Marvel Comics property. Thunderbolts is a superhero team, which consists mostly of reformed supervillains. While there have been several roster changes for the Thunderbolts, founding members of the team included Atlas, Citizen V, Mach-I, Meteorite, Songbird, and Techno. Of all the properties selected by James Gunn, Thunderbolts is likely the most established, having an ongoing series for numerous years. Thunderbolts was created by Kurt Busiek and Mark Bagley.
