Not since Ben Affleck was cast as Batman has there been more outrage about a comic book movie casting on Twitter. Shortly after Warner Bros. announced that Jesse Eisenberg had been cast as Lex Luthor in the untitled Batman/Superman movie, the internet and Twitter in particular exploded with fans reacting to the news. Lex Luthor quickly became the top trending term on Twitter, as everyone seems to have an opinion on the unexpected casting announcement. While Eisenberg is an Oscar-nominated actor, he doesn't exactly have the look that most fans seemed to have envisioned for Lex Luthor. The most common criticisms seem to be that Eisenberg is too young and has too much hair to play Lex Luthor. As with any controversial casting decision, there are both supporters and detractors on Twitter. However, the most common reaction seems to be to make a joke about it. The most common joke being some play some play on the Batman Vs. Superman casting director getting confused over the Internet wanting Heisenberg (Bryan Cranston) as Lex Luthor. Another popular running joke is drawing comparisons between Lex Luthor and Eisenberg's role as Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network. We've embedded below some of the most interesting tweets about the Eisenberg casting. While the tweets so far seem to lean toward fans disagreeing with or joking about the casting decision, there are also quite a few pointing out that Heath Ledger's casting as The Joker was controversial at the time. Batman Vs. Superman is scheduled to be released in movie theaters on May 6, 2016.
