Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues

will get a week-long, limited theatrical re-release this week, featuring (according to its press kit) 763 new jokes and an R-rating. The film, which stars Ant-Man's Paul Rudd alongside Will Ferrell, Steve Carell and David Koechner, generated over $125 million at U.S. theaters during its PG-13-rated theatrical run -- a pretty significant haul, considering that the first film generated just $85 million, and then the filmmakers waited ten years to make the second. It paid off, but it was a risky proposition. The first film was catchphrase-heavy, and by the time Anchorman 2 rumbled into theaters, most of the jokes had already outlived their expiration dates. Add to that the real-time aging element, and you have a film that left the '70s and entered the '80s, fundamentally changing many of the elements that made it stand out in the crowded summer comedy landscape in 2004. Of course, 2014 is less about comedies and more about franchises--something the Anchorman team built here, and which will be shocking if it doesn't continue. So check out three clips from the re-release, with the caveat that it's an R-rated re-release and they're probably not safe for work... With the 70's behind him, San Diego's top rated newsman, Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), returns to the newsdesk in ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES," which opened in theaters everywhere December 18. Also back for more are Ron's co-anchor and wife, Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), weather man Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), man on the street reporter Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) and sports guy Champ Kind (David Koechner) - All of whom won't make it easy to stay classy… while taking New York and the nation's first 24-hour news channel by storm. Produced by Judd Apatow, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. Written by Will Ferrell & Adam McKay. Directed by Adam McKay.
