Rio 2 & Captain America: The Winter SoldierCaptain America: The Winter Soldier

got off to a great start in its first weekend at the box office, but Friday's box office went to the birds. In its first day of release, Rio 2 barely beat out Captain America: The Winter Soldier to win the daily box office on Friday. Rio 2 took the top spot at the U.S. box office with a $12 million take. Captain America: The Winter Soldier finished in a close second with $11.9 million. Two other new releases claimed the next two spots. Oculus finished in third place with $4.94 million, and Draft Day took fourth place with $3.58 million. There is some debate over whether Rio 2 or Captain America: The Winter Solider will ultimately win this weekend's box office, but most are projecting Rio 2 to come out on top. Rio 2 is on track for a $44 million opening weekend, while Captain America: The Winter Soldier is tracking for a $41 million second weekend. Regardless of if Captain America: The Winter Solider beats Rio 2 or not, the film's second weekend box office should be more than enough to make Captain America: The Winter Soldier the second highest grossing film of 2014 so far at the U.S. box office. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is already the second highest grossing film of 2014 so far at the worldwide box office.
