Fans how have read the books should probably have a good idea of what to expect from season five and have a pretty good grasp on what characters they are likely to see. However, this new information hints at certain changes being made in season five and helps give shape to exactly what portions of the books the fifth season will be focusing on. The fifth season should draw most of its plot from the fourth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, A Feast for Crows, and the casting notes listed here seem to support that. Keep in mind, however, that some events from A Feast for Crows have already been touched upon in Game of Thrones Season 4. It's also important to note that A Feast for Crows only features about half of the characters from the series. Game of Thrones is unlikely to ignore half of its actors for a season, so season five will also likely draw some from A Dance with Dragons, the fifth book in the series. A Dance with Dragons picks up the narrative threads involving the characters ignored in A Feast for Crows and the first half of the book occurs at chronologically the same time as A Feast for Crows. According to the report, we can expect to see a lot more of the Martell family. They are casting Prince Oberyn's brother, Doran Martell, as well as Prince Trystane, the young fiancé to Princess Myrcella Baratheon. Doran is expected to appear largely unchanged from his description in the books, a wise man of about fifty who uses a wheelchair and is much more even-tempered than his brother. Like most of the younger characters, Trystane will be aged up a bit, appearing as about 18-years-old. Like with Oberyn, HBO is looking to cast Latin actors in the Martell family roles. Doran is expected to be a major player, appearing in several episodes in the season. Doran's bodyguard, Areo Hotah, is also being cast. HBO is reportedly looking for a black actor to fill the role. Game of Thrones season five will also feature the Sand Snakes, Oberyn's bastard daughters. Though he has eight in the books, they are being condensed into three for the show. Obara Sand is the oldest and most physical and is slated to have a fight scene in the show that does not occur in the books. Nymeria Sand is the second oldest and most emotional of the Sand Snakes. She is said to be a mixed-race character, the daughter of Oberyn and a darker-skinned woman. The youngest Sand Snake is Tyene Sand, who is less physical than her sisters. Instead, she relies on her wits and skill in seduction, as well as a bit of poison, to get things done. Also being cast are the High Sparrow, the leader of the new religious movement that will surely play a major role in season five, and Septa Unella, an imposing character who will share a lot of scenes with other key players in the series. The report also says that the show is looking to cast Lollys Stokeworth, who we just learned would be marrying Bronn in the latest episode of season four. Bronn becomes absent from the story following his marriage and abandonment of Tyrion, but this casting choice suggests that he will be returning in Game of Thrones season five. It makes you wonder if the showrunners know something about a role that Bronn is to play later on in the story that book readers haven't learned about yet. Lastly, the show is looking to cast Yezeen, a Meereenese slave owner, Maggy the Frog, a fortune teller from A Feast for Crows who will appear in one episode of the next season, and The Waif, the child that Arya encounters after travelling to Braavos. The report says that the Waif will be aged up to her older teens and will be played by an actress of Eastern Asian descent. Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EST on HBO.
