Mark Ruffalo Against Planet Hulk Movie, Thinks Hulk Solo Film Needs More Banner

Mark Ruffalo has come out against the theory that Marvel Studios is planning a solo Hulk film based on Planet Hulk, the story written by Greg Pak and drawn by Carlos Pagulayan in the pages of Incredible Hulk from 2006 into 2007.

In Planet Hulk, as summarized by Ruffalo for MTV, "They launch Bruce Banner into space to try to get rid of him and the Hulk. He ends up freaking out, smashing up the spaceship, and it goes off course and ends up on this planet of gladiator creatures. He falls in love, has a Hulk baby … and then the Avengers nuke the planet."

Planet Hulk has already proven to be a storyline that lends itself to adaptation, as Marvel has adapted it into an animated feature already, but Ruffalo says he thinks it's the wrong approach for a solo live-action Hulk movie because it lacks a significant role for Bruce Banner.

"I don't think [Planet Hulk] is the way to go yet," he said. "I think you need more Banner. The whole thing is just him as Hulk, on a planet, fighting other gladiators."

It definitely seems that Ruffalo is on board with the idea of another Hulk solo film, just not one based on Planet Hulk.

Ruffalo will next appear as the Hulk in Avengers: Age of Ultron, opening May 1, 2015.
