Veteran DC and Marvel Comics voice actor Clancy Brown has been cast in the live-action role of The General on The CW's The Flash.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brown will play General Wade Eiling, also known as The General, described in the context of the show as "the head of a black ops army team pursuing Plastique (Kelly Frye) in the hopes of using her as a human weapon. Described as a tall and imposing man, with 'a face carved from years of duty,' Eiling is fanatically intent on protecting American interests around the world and may have ties to a central Flash character."

Eiling is tied in the comics to Heinrich Megala, who most recently appeared in the comics as a Firestorm villain. Megala and Eiling are partially responsible for the creation of Captain Atom and Major Force. He's also been a member of the Suicide Squad.

Brown, who has played Lex Luthor on and off for decades, currently voices the Red Hulk on Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. and Taskmaster on Ultimate Spider-Man. He will soon appear as Mr. Krabs in The Spongebob Squarepants Movie: Sponge Out of Water. In live action, he's arguably most recognizable from his turn as Captain Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption but has also appeared in films like Starship Troopers and The Highlander. More recently he has been appearing on Sleepy Hollow as Sheriff Corbin.

Brown voiced Parallax for The Flash executive producer Greg Berlanti's adaptation of Green Lantern.

Ironically, Brown recently voiced longtime Flash villain Gorilla Grodd in one of the Robot Chicken DC Comics specials.

The General appeared on Justice League Unlimited, voiced by Brown's Ultimate Spider-Man castmate J.K. Simmons.
