Meet the New, New Gods: Character Sketches in This Week's DC Books Give Insight Into Godhead

Lightray, Metron and the Mobius Chair are among the classic Jack Kirby creations being reinvented in the upcoming Green Lantern/New Gods crossover story "Godhead."

Also making a reappearance is Bekka, the inventor of the Mother Box and a character last seen in 2008, when she died at the hands of her uncle The Infinity Man during The Death of the New Gods.

The image also introduces a number of new characters: Malhedron, Shadowfall, Uggha and Hyalt. Their design retains an identifiably Kirbyesque aesthetic.

Woods took to Facebook last week, though, to post a new look at Lightray, saying that someone at DC had inadvertently used an earlier version of the redesign and that the one on the poster image above was ultimately rejected.

The premise of the Godhead storyline is that Highfather and his group want to obtain one of each ring in the emotional spectrum to use against Darkseid. This, presumably, will tie into Darkseid's expected appearances in Earth 2: World's End, the weekly series set on Earth 2.

At the end of Forever Evil, we saw that the Anti-Monitor was on a collision course with Darkseid as well, which might lend itself to speculation as to whether Grant Morrison's The Multiversity, a sequel to Final Crisis, might tie into Godhead. Final Crisis was in itself a sequel to Crisis on Infinite Earths, the story that introduced the Anti-Monitor, and included the New Gods in prominent roles -- something that Crisis on Infinite Earths, Zero Hour: A Crisis in Time and Infinite Crisis did not do.

The New Gods: Godhead #1 kicks off the story on October 1.
