PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds continues to blast past other games with its player count quickly approaching 2 million concurrent players, a remarkable number that seemed like a longshot not too long ago.

The milestone that PUBG is rocketing towards follows a previous accomplishment when the battle royale game crossed the 1 million player mark, a number that honestly seems like chump change at this point seeing how quickly the game's stats are climbing. Steam data that was first reported on by Kotaku puts PUBG squarely above 1.9 million player, just shy of the 2 million count but more than enough to attest to the popularity of the game.

PUBG 2 Million Players

From looking at the chart and seeing how the new hit game stacks up against the other titles that hold the top spots, it's hard to even look at them as competition at this point. Even if you ignore the almost 2 million peak players for the day, the current player count still hovers around 1 million players, a number that's leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of the games.

Trailing behind PUBG is Dota 2, a game that the last-man-standing game looked to beat not too long ago. Dota 2 brings in plenty of concurrent players each day as seen in the Steam charts, and it was the main game that PUBG looked to topple on its climb to the top. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was another popular title that stood in the way of PUBG's numbers at one point, but the game has long passed the popular competitive shooter by now.

But even with the lofty player count, PUBG shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. The number continues to rise week after week, and it's worth repeating that this game is still in early access. Players have complained about PC optimization and other features in the past, but that hasn't stopped gamers from returning to PUBG each day.

Updates have been coming for PUBG to add new content ranging from guns to weather effects, and one of the most anticipated updates that's eventually rolling out is the addition of a vaulting mechanic. But before that comes and even after, expect to see PUBG's numbers continue to climb towards, and past, 2 million players.
