The Walking Dead: New Rumor Suggests The Whisperers Arrive In A Few Weeks

Now that Negan has become a regular character on The Walking Dead, many comic fans are looking ahead to the arrival of the next big series villain - The Whisperers.

For thos who aren't aware, The Whisperers are a group that believes the infection was a way to revert mankind back toward its animalistic nature. In addition to living in nature, these people wear zombie skin so they can blend in with herds of walkers. They even wear masks made of dead skin - it's as gross as it sounds.

Fans were wondering when the group woud arrive on the show, and there was plenty of speculation that their debut would come sometime this season. After a trailer dropped for next week's episode, 'Swear', audiences thought The Whisperers would appear in the episode.

ComicBook.com's Walking Dead Insider Brandon Davis asked producer/showrunner Scott Gimple if The Whisperers were going to show up this early, and he said they definitely were. He did, however, reveal that they may be appearing sooner than people would expect.

"If we've gotten this far without saying anything about them, I'd like the audience to discover this group when it's on screen," said Gimple. "I will say ... I mean, it's not the Whisperers. I will also say, though, that it's not impossible that the Whisperers could come along or aspects of them could come along earlier than the timeline of the book, but certainly not this early."

A new rumor reports that The Whisperers will show their ugly masks during the mid-season finale on December 11 of this year. That would somewhat align with Gimple's statement, but would also shock fans around the world.

According to IMDb, the description for episode eight, titled 'Hearts Still Beating', says The Whisperers will be attacking Alexandria while Rick is away.

This is a total curveball for anyone familiar with The Walking Dead comics, as The Whisperers aren't slated to appear until long after Negan and Rick go to war. According to the source material, it's supposed to be almost three years until these villains arrive.

This episode description goes against what was previously reported on IMDb last week. The original description read:

"Negan's unwelcome visit to Alexandria continues as other members scavenge for supplies; things quickly spin out of control."

IMDb has been known to see changes in things like characters and episode descriptions. Since an infinite number of people can alter the information on the site, it's not always a source that can be relied on.

To be honest, this description looks like a major error. If the original description is correct, and this season follows the comics like it has been, The Saviors will be attacking Alexandria while Rick is gone. Most likely, the person who wrote this description meant to say The Saviors, instead of The Whisperers.

If there is any truth to this post, however, fans of The Walking Dead could be in for one hell of a ride over the next few weeks.
