The Walking Dead couldn't resist taking the opportunity to troll former star Jon Bernthal via his new show, Marvel's The Punisher.

The official Twitter account for Marvel's The Punisher released a new teaser last night once again teasing the show's still unrevealed release date.

The tease invited fans to "read between the lines" and presented them again with a redacted release date.

Here's the teaser:

Marvel's The Punisher stars Jon Bernthal, who previously played Shane on AMC's The Walking Dead. The official Twitter account for The Walking Dead saw this teaser as an opportunity to have some fun by picking at a lingering wound from Shane's time on the show.

"We'll assume it says 'I'm Judith's real father,'" The Walking Dead tweeted.

For those Marvel fans in the audience who didn't watch the first season of The Walking Dead, Shane was the partner and best friend of officer Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln). Rick was shot and fell into a coma just before the zombie apocalypse began.

After Rick woke, he was eventually reunited with Shane and discovered that he was sleeping with Rick's wife, Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies). Lori and Rick got back together, and Rick eventually killed Shane. Lori was later revealed to be pregnant and the timing made determining the father complicated. Rick has raised the child, Judith, as his own, but even he believes that Shane is likely her real father.

Netflix fired back at The Walking Dead on Twitter, tweeting "dead don't punish inside," a Walking Dead callback.

The Punisher Twitter account did the same, but with an appropriate GIF.

The Walking Dead returns for its eighth season on AMC on October 22, 2017.

Marvel's The Punisher premieres on Netflix in 2017.
