'Stargate Origins' First Look Teaser Released

Stargate is back, and fans can now take a look at the first behind-the-scenes teaser for the upcoming series Stargate: Origins.

Stargate: Origins will be a 10-episode series airing on the new streaming platform called Stargate Command. The series is timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the premiere of Stargate SG-1 in 1997 and will feature a younger version Catherine Langford, who was played in SG-1 by Elizabeth Hoffman and by Viveca Lindfors in the original movie. In Stargate: Origins, Langford is played by Connor Trinneer, who can be seen in the video above.

Stargate: Origins is written by Mark Ilvedson and Justin Michael Terry and will explore the history of both Catherine and the Stargate, but will also look to the future. The series also stars Stargate Atlantis actress Ellie Gal as Professor Langford's daughter, who goes on "an unexpected adventure to unlock the mystery of what lies beyond the Stargate in order to save Earth from unimaginable darkness."

The behind-the-scenes teaser offers at look at Stargate: Origins' props, soundstage and some of the set. It also features series director Mercedes Bryce Morgan and supporting actors Philip Alexander, Salome Azizi, Michelle Jubilee Gonzalez, Daniel Rashid, Sarah Navratil, Shvan Aladdin, Tonatiuh Elizarraraz, Derek Chariton, Justin Michael Terry, Lincoln Werner Hoppe, and Aylam Orian.

"We had stunts and we had blood and we had emotional moments, and I feel like we really hit all those," Morgan says, "and at the end, it was going and going and going and going."

Stargate Command is being launched as the definitive homepage for Stargate Fans. Fans can visit the site to watch all three previous Stargate series – Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Stargate Universe – as well as the three films – the original Stargate, Stargate: The Ark of Truth, and Stargate: Continuum.

The plan seems to be somewhat similar, but also different, from what is being attempted with Star Trek and the CBS All Access platform. Like Stargate Command, CBS All Access hosts every previous Star Trek television series and nearly all of the films and also features a brand new series, Star Trek: Discovery (as well as an after show, After Trek).

However, CBS All Access isn't solely devoted to Star Trek. It also features other CBS broadcast shows, The Goof Wife spinoff The Good Fight, and several upcoming CBS All Access exclusive. The pricing models also differ. Access to CBS All Access costs $5.99 per month or $9.99 to go ad-free, while Stargate Command needs only a one-time $20 payment.

Star Trek: Discovery has led to record sign-ups for CBS All Access and received a second season renewal. It will be interesting to see how these two sci-fi franchises compare as they continue to venture into the streaming television space.
