The Hunger Games franchise continues to catch fire and its latest release, Mockingjay: Part 1, may soon surpass Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy as 2014’s highest grossing domestic box office film.

According to Indie Wire, Mockingjay Part 1 is only in its seventh week of release and is only $10 million shy of surpassing Guardians of the Galaxy.
The Marvel space adventure remained in theaters for 22 weeks to hit the $332 million that earned the film the 2014 domestic box office crown.
Ticket sales projections indicate that the third Hunger Games film will inevitably surpass the $332 million number in only a few weeks’ time.
The success of Mockingjayย Part 1 and X-Men: Days of Future Pastย resulted in Jennifer Lawrence being the highest grossing actress in 2014, with $1.4 billion at the box office last year.
Mockingjayย Part 2, the final installment of The Hunger Games saga, hits theaters Nov. 20.
