“There will be one new play set from each of the four core brands in Disney Infinity 3.0 this year,” John Blackburn announced on the Disney Infinity NEXT online presentation today.

That means there will be new sets for Marvel, the already-announced Marvel Battlegrounds, plus new Star Wars, Disney, and Pixar play sets. While the others weren’t officially announced yet, rumors point to Alice Through the Looking Glass and Finding Dory getting support in some form, and, well, there is another Star Wars movie coming out this December with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. During the sign-off of the special, EVP John Vignocchi said the next episode would “visit our favorite fish and take a look through the looking glass,” so it seems the rumors are solid.
This is a new change for Disney Infinity, with additional, year-round support for the platform on the 3.0 model, without needing a new starter pack piece of hardware, which they’ve previously re-issued yearly with the first three years of the game.
More information will come soon for Disney Infinity’s upcoming play sets, but for now, you can watch the new Marvel Battlegrounds trailer here, and learn about the new characters here.
