Zootopia Sets New Record For Disney Animation’s Largest Opening Weekend Ever

Zootopia not only toppled Deadpool at the domestic box office this weekend, but it banked $73.7 million, the best opening weekend ever for a Disney Animation film.

The previous Disney Animation best three-day opening weekend was $56 million for the Marvel Comics adaptation Big Hero 6. Both Wreck-It Ralph and Tangled neared $50 million as well. Frozen opened with less than $250,000 at a single theater, but widened to $67 million in its second week/first week in wide release.

It also bested the previous mark for a March animated opening, which was The Lorax‘s $70 million.
