Many internet users tweeted #JusticeForHarambe after the gorilla was killed in the Cincinnati Zoo last year. But how many people will retweet for a Harambe movie? The world will soon find out as Ryan Kavanaugh, CEO of Relativity Media, has set out a challenge: 1,000,000 retweets and he’ll make a Harambe movie.

Last year, the 17-year-old Western Lowland silverback gorilla was killed at the Cincinnati Zoo after a 4-year-old boy fell into the gorilla enclosure. Harambe grabbed the boy and dragged him across the enclosure rather violently. Zoo keepers felt that the only way to safely retrieve the boy was to put Harambe down.

But since then, Harambe has been given a second life on the internet. He has become the center of many internet memes and gifs. If you have something you want to express, point out, or make fun of, there is a Harambe for it! Even JK Rowling had to clarify that Harambe was not one of the patronus options in her latest Pottermore quiz.

Harambe’s internet popularity could very well be the only reason why Kavanaugh has set out his million retweet challenge. Despite the controversy surrounding the Harambe’s death โ€“ whether or not the boy’s parents should be held responsible for the death of the gorilla โ€“ is there really a story here, or is Relativity simply trying to take advantage and make a profit off a popular trend?

Kavanaugh has had a history of saying provocative things on his twitter feed, so perhaps this is just a ploy. But, if Kavanaugh and Relativity are truly looking for #JusticeForHarambe, then maybe they fell as though this is a story to tell.

If you’re interested to see what a Harambe movie could look like, go ahead and retweet Kavanaugh. If you’re not, then perhaps you could just retweet it because it’s funny, or at least reply with your favorite Harambe meme.
