The Flash Director Teases Script And Cyborg?

It seems as though The Flash director Rick Famuyiwa may be the first filmmaker ever to address casting rumors via strategically-placed Funko Pop.

Earlier today, Famuyiwa took to social media to post the cover page to the most recent draft of his screenplay. This one, with revisions from the director himself, was shot in such close-up that you can’t even be 100% sure that it’s the screenplay for The Flash, if not for his name and “Based on the characters in DC Comics” on it.

…And, along with a Funko Pop toy of The Flash standing on top of the script, there’s another pair of silver feet that a commenter has identified as those of a Funko Pop Cyborg.

Last month, a rumor hit that Cyborg would make an appearance in The Flash, to which Famuyiwa responded with the hashtag #SaysWho?

Most fans didn’t buy it, though; producers have been dropping hints that The Flash and Cyborg would be friendly in the upcoming Justice League.

Executive producer Deborah Snyder spoke about DC’s upcoming slate, and specifically mentioned the duo:

“David Ayer’s Suicide Squad has such an amazing, brash tone. It’s fun and it’s about the villains, and it’s super-different than Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman, which is an origin story and tells her story. As you can imagine, when we get to the Flash movie, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher — who plays Cyborg — are kind of our youngest characters, and they have a really nice comradery with each other. Ezra is super funny, so the tone of that film will be very different than the rest of them.”

Because of his history directing movies primarily starring people of color, The Flash director Rick Famuyiwa’s name was associated with Cyborg after rumors started to circulate that he might be circling a DC Extended Universe film.

The character of Cyborg will make his first true appearance in Justice League, although he had a cameo (as the dismembered youth whose father attached alien technology to him on a video from S.T.A.R. Labs) in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

In the comics, Victor Stone was a high school athlete whose father saved his life after a catastrophic accident by turning him into a cyborg. In the movies, the item affixed to Victor was called a Mother Box, and it has ties to Justice League villain Steppenwolf and his nephew, Darkseid, who is generally expected to be the villain in a forthcoming Justice League sequel.

In the comics, his abilities include communicating and manipulating machines, being able to reshape the cybernetic parts of his body, as well as basic energy projection. Most notably, in The New 52 reboot back in 2011, elements of New Gods technology was incorporated into Victor’s body, making him able to open Boom Tubes, communicate with Mother Boxes, etc. This seems likely to be a key part of his skillset in the movies.

The Flash is expected to begin filming in early 2017, possibly January.

Suicide Squad is now in theaters; Wonder Woman is coming on June 2, 2017; followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; The Flash on March 16, 2018; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020.
