When it comes to run times, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is fairly consistent. Most of the studio's blockbusters situate themselves at about two hours, give or take. As such, many fans have anticipated the upcoming release of Doctor Strange to feature about 120 minutes worth of footage - and it seems like they are correct in their deductions.

The British Board of Film Classifications has apparently revealed the approved run time of Doctor Strange with its latest website update. The organization claims the film will be 114 minutes and 49 seconds long, rounding out to about two hours of footage.

So far, there's no official word on if this revelation is correct. Earlier this summer, Even Cinemas allegedly reported that Doctor Strange would be 130 minutes long, but director Scott Derrickson quickly shot down those rumors on Twitter. The director refrained on commenting about how long the film actually is, but now, it seems that a fairly reputable organization has confirmed what the run time really is.

If Doctor Strange does wrap at around 114 minutes, then the run time is on par with previous MCU films. For instance, the first Iron Man movie clocked in at 126 minutes while Thor stands at 115. Captain America: The First Avenger gave fans 124 minutes of footage while Ant-Man ended at 118 minutes. As far as origin stories go, Doctor Strange seems to be following Marvel's trend of shorter run times when compared to the studio and its ensemble projects. Movies like The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron ran over 140 minutes to accomodate their large cast.

Given the shorter length of Doctor Strange, it's interesting to hear that Derrickson believes the film will kick off the MCU's multiverse. The director told ComicBook.com he thinks his film will "be the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse. It's really serving the same function that the comic did. Even though it was a weird aberration as a comic book, I think it was a real linchpin in the comics. It ended up being decades of new stories and I think this movie will do the same thing."
