When Sony Pictures announced that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 would be the last of the franchise, fans were left with a handful of cliffhangers. The series' sudden end had fans wondering where Peter Parker might have gone in a third film. Moviegoers were curious whether the mysterious figure at the end of both films would play a bigger role in the vigilante's future. But, according to Andrew Garfield, the man was of little importance.

The actor told CinemaBlend in a recent interview that he didn't know if the, "filmmakers knew who the hell that guy was!"

"I don't know," Garfield said. "I actually don't know. No. But the good news is that now none of us are ever going to find out, because that version of Spider-Man is no longer. Now we got Tom Holland, who I really think is going to do some beautiful stuff."

In The Amazing Spider-Man films, fans were introduced to the shadowy figure at the end of the first movie. The character, who was named Gustav Fiers, visited Dr. Cut Connors in his jail cell and openly threatened Peter Parker. The sequel also featured Fiers speaking with Harry Osborn, and the slick conversation hinted that the Sinister Six gang would star in the third film.

But, as Garfield explained, fans no longer have to think about the mystery man. The Amazing Spider-Man has come to an end, and a new actor has already taken over the mantle of Queen's famous vigilante. Tom Holland inherited the role and recently debuted his version of Spider-Man to audiences during Captain America: Civil War.

If you are wondering how Garfield feels about Holland suiting up as Spider-Man, then prepare to hear some lovely praise. The actor said he's at peace with with decision and is excited to approach the new Spider-Man films as a fan rather than an actor. Garfield told The Independent last year that his tenure as a superhero was "beautiful" but also "disenchanting" at times. But, when it come to Holland, the actor is confident that his successor won't fumble with the hero's fame.

In an interview with Fandango, Garfield gave Holland his blessing to go forth as Peter Parker. He said, "I'm...excited for Tom Holland. I think he's a very emotional, truthful, funny, physical actor, and I love the filmmaker -- it all really couldn't be in any better hands. I'm really stoked for it."

However, fans shouldn't expect to see Garfield's legacy disappear from the Spider-Man universe. Holland told Variety last year that there would be "things from Tobey and Andrew's character[s]" that he's going to steal for his own performance.
